So much for a "stable" update

Recommended Posts

I understand this game is still in alpha stages and I am aware that all games will have bugs/glitches/exploits. I'm also sure that the dev's are working long hours in attempts to make the game better. But I stand by an old saying I keep hearing time and time again "don't try to fix something that isn't broken". Here goes nothing.....I understand how frustrating its is when your shooting at someone and all of a sudden they disappear(it has happens to me a lot seeing as though I like to be the rouge sniper) but in reality nothing is lost and nothing is gained, sure people are disappointed  but they get over it quick. Now what if you were playing for 2-3 hours got geared up and you decided you were done playing DayZ for the day and you run into the woods knowing that its going to take 30sec for your avatar to logout(its more like 35sec btw). When all of a sudden someone sees you stand up in the woods (cause that's what happens when you logout) runs up to you handcuffs you loots all your stuff the shoots you in the head(yes that is quite possible to do in the 30-35 seconds, I have a video of that exact same thing happening from this morning from me and a buddy of mine playing).

You decide to login later in the day only to log on to "you are dead" and no matter what server you try you keep logging on dead and the respawn button greyed out so now the game is un-playable to you. So much for a "stable" update right? I know what most of you are thinking some friend doing you dirty like that but it really opened my eyes cause before the patch I was all for the 30sec logout. IMO 10-15 seconds would be enough and I am not even going to start with the respawn greyed out and myself logging into "you are dead" over and over and over cause im going to be playing Rust until this is fixed. If anyone wants to see the video my friend took today pm me and ill give you the link. I hope the dev's take this into consideration cause previously to this "stable" patch it was one of my fav games ;(

Hi.

I was one of the non combat loggers opposed to the new system, trust me your complaints will fall on deaf ears.

They had to implement some type of anti-combat log system, and for whatever reason chose the easy lazy route. All that you can do is adapt.

Regards.

Easy lazy route? This isn't an ideal setup obviously (would prefer a screen in game countdown rather than this) but this does help combat the problem. Fairly sure it will get replaced with something better down the line. It's certainly better than nothing.

chiming on this matter, I would had rather seen a live countdown, rather than logging off and hoping someone doesn't randomly find you're guy derping around and blows yer brains out, but meh what are you going to do

Again this obviously isn't the preferred method, but it's the current system or nothing until something better is designed. You guys act like this is in concrete and is never going to change.

Hi.

Maybe my description seems harsh but still valid. Easy because there simply is no easier way of doing it. Lazy because any good method that only effects people that are actually in combat would require much more coding.

But as you said it's certainly better than nothing.

Regards.

I'd prefer the timer to allow you to observe what is happening prior to your char logging off, i.e. the abort button is unclickable for 30 seconds. That way you still have to wait still to log out, but if someone comes at you in that time you stand a chance of getting away.

Wow, everytime I read a thread starting with " I understand this is still in alpha.... etc. etc." it's someone who doesn't really understand what an alpha actually is.

Pro-Tip: Read the Disclaimers, understand them (serious issues.... etc. etc.) and don't post another pointless thread. Please...

I agree that the countdown should occur while you are still in game. I don't think there is truly a "safe" place to log out of, where I would feel comfortable leaving my character for 30 seconds unattended. I can see what their possible reasoning would be for implementing it in this way. A combat logger could just post up in a "safe enough" location during a combat situation, hit logout and hope he reaches the timer, all the while, 100% ready to pull the trigger, react to combatants. However, I don't think that exact situation would occur enough to warrant the penalty it exacts on people just wanted to leave game normally.

I think the live countdown to be able to abort is a better (but maybe not best) solution.

Even though I generally agree with the consensus here, I think the OP sounds a little too over dramatic. This comes off as akin to the generic "OMG GAME IS BROKEN" posts.

I think your over exaggerating a little. Its not hard to find somewhere safe to log out for 30 secs,

The only people whining about this change are combat loggers

The easy way around that was "Alt+F4"

The current system is fine.

Adapt.

I have invented (yes ME) and implemented The Buddy System.

Have a buddy with you to watch over your body while you log out. Switch duty, next time its you that watches your buddy log out.

Don't have a buddy?

Go to a seriously remote location (like there is any shortage of those!) and do your business.

People are just f@cking lazy is what it is. Kid signed up to gripe for his first post. Good Greef!

But but but but I don't have the time to run for 2 minutes because I have a life and must log immediately because I don't know how to plan ahead

This is an game in the alpha stage. Your purpose in not to enjoy it (for now). Your purpose is to report bugs and make sure that this game will be ready for you to enjoy when its not an alpha or beta. That being said i understand that yes things can be frustrating but again, your purpose is to report bugs and get the game fixed so that you can be able to enjoy this game when it is complete.

Interesting. I thing your over exaggerating a little. Not all of us "whining" about this are combat loggers. Some of us are, despite how the OP is coming off, trying to participate in an adult conversation about this. Sure, logging out as it's currently implemented will work most of the time. I see the other side of the argument, that there are plenty of places one can go, to practically ensure a 100% safe logout. I still don't think such a guarantee exists, no matter how safe you think you are.

I don't like the idea of relinquishing control of my character for 30 seconds without being able to react to threats. The first time I log out and come back to a dead player, where I wasn't able to at least react to whatever killed me, I'd be disappointed. Increasingly so the more it occurred. I just want a fair chance to react if I happen to attempt a logout in an area I thought was perfectly safe, but was in fact not. With that being said, I understand this is alpha. They need to test things out, and see how people like them. I for one, am not overly fond of it. I don't think this particular feature will last as it's currently implemented, but something like it surely needs to be. If it stayed this way, my feelings wouldn't be hurt too much, and I'd move on without another thought towards it.

So because this is Alpha, do not question why the last two updates made the game worse.   The second to last update gave us the game pausing "missing file, please hit continue " error every 20 minutes.  Completely destroyed the immersion of the game........ this new patch prevents every player from being able to defend themselves when they log off.    (instead of using a time count down like every other game in the world).

but do not question this..... It's an Alpha.

we are such rubes for disregarding these issues as simply "alpha problems" and not underlying inadequacies of the entire project.

It was reported that they put in a pbo check now to prevent the deletion of critical files such as the ones you speak of.. That was almost a month ago. They also stated that they are working on the missing file error. It's supposed to be fixed this patch. Seems like a trivial thing to complain about in such flamboyant fashion, since it's obviously not a feature and is even now been addressed and fixed. As for the log out feature, well, it's debatable at best. I am not a huge fan, but I can see how it benefits us. I could go either way on it's exact implementation, but don't think it's the end of the world as so many seem to think. I just don't understand why everybody can't act like an adult about it, discuss the pro's and con's while contributing to potential solutions, instead of being over dramatic and rude. Things don't get fixed as simply or as quickly as some may like, or in the exact manner everyone can agree on. That's life. It's certainly not the end of the world.
