Less Military. More Apocalyptic. (Clothing)

Recommended Posts

Yeah I always enjoyed the thrown together outfits in stalker. I have always liked the thrown together mercenary look made up of military/civilian clothing for my characters, is that 1st pic Eli?, the 3rd actually looks like its from stalker.

There'll be more clothing, not just military stuff. Fear not, eventually (simply due to loot table), there'll be much more. And probably also likewise equipment.

So not everyone who's geared up will look the same. I can imagine some more rag-tag / PMC stuff, too.

The first is Eli. Second is Tom Hardy in the new Mad Max movie. Third is a concept art for Bill in The Last of Us game. My point exactly. A thrown together mixture of clothing is the key to that post apoc garb.

Still very early in development so of course there are going to be few choices i clothing and the best clothing at the moment is military gear as they have the most slots.

The further they get, the more they will add and i'm sure they'll add a ton more civilian/apocalyptic clothing worth taking.

But yeah i agree, the less military stuff the better.

I dont think its as much as they need less military clothing, they just need a equal amount civilian and military clothing that is desirable. I like the Czech gasmask I had plans to buy one before I saw it in dayZ anyway(Check out Cheaper than dirt.com) but I hope they add some different gasmasks.

In the least I'd like to see the default outfits look a little bit like you're somebody who is just going out to the shop. Finding military gear and the likes isn't unbelievable, but at least a little dirt on the starting t-shirt would be better. Or something more like the standard DayZ mod outfit.

The stranded mod outfit was a mix of civ/mili it was a PMC skin as well as the Hero skin. It would look a bit better and feel a bit more desperate if you started out with your outfit dirty.

I like the idea of modifying clothing to fit your needs and to make you invest in your kit. So that you don't automatically ditch your outfit as soon as you come across a military jacket.

It's a good idea.. or military clothing should just be pretty much damaged or badly damaged etc most times you find it

Great ideas everyone. I agree with the fact that military gear is something prevelant in an apocalyptic scenario and most people will have some form of it on. It's just not having EVERYTHING you wear be military. Having options between the two. Should I keep my tarnished hoody or switch to a military raincoat? Maybe "slot size" should be something that is standard on clothing? There are a number of ways to approach the issue and I'm sure the devs are going to make it awesome.

Definitely. This needs to happen! It will create a better post-apocalyptic feel. Running around with military armor, vest and clothing deprives from the civilian survival aspect. It makes me, personally, feel like some infantry man from Call of Duty.

Agreed 100%.

As much as I love extra gear space I hate looking like a bandit out for a fight, would love some alternatives.

lol Dude what is that 4th one from it looks like Stalker set in the 1920's. It would be cool to get some biker clothes something like Max's like Roy posted, seeing a bunch of guys with moto helmets at the moment is funny with apoc biker gear you might have second thoughts

MadMax-style isn't thaat far away, TBH.

Because they're mostly made out of leather and scrap metal. and there's enough old metal and also leather(upcoming deer, hunting backpack) in DayZ

My suggestion was making all clothing with the same exact number of slots. all pants x-slots all shirts x-slots all jackets x-slots.. all depending on the quality of the clothing would be the number of slots. for example pristine shorts 6 slots, pristine jeans 6 slots, pristine military pants 6 slots... damaged shorts 3 slots damaged jeans 3 or 4 slots etc that way youll see ppl with random clothing all depending on pristine. otherwise everyone will be looking for same clothing and everyone will look alike.

I wouldn't mind a tomahawk, would be a very handy tool/ weapon and be able to act as a hammer aswell.

Not sure how often you would see them over thar though, I'm sure there's a few like me that are kind of interested and may buy that sort of stuff.

Also long knee length duster jackets, cargo jacket sort of things like the fallout trader outfit above, steam-punky looking goggles, leather bomber cap, anything old and interesting.

one thing I noticed is that all of the clothes we find so far are man clothing. I think the ladies should get something too, not just a girly version of the same stuff.

Not sure how long has been since the outbreak of zombies, but we already find some "normal" clothes around, why not a skirt? or a dress?

Plus you could ridicule people by forcing them to wear a skirt and bra? Or having to wear girl clothing because you have found nothing better.
