Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557

Recommended Posts

Only read the last few posts but wanting to add I’m coming back to gaming after five or six years of not playing a single game because of DayZ and the new Elite game I backed having played the original.

To me Dayz is refreshing, its hard and unforgiving and I love that. Every fire fight is different and every journey is an adventure. I actually felt sad for the younger gamers that have had to put up with these kill as many as you can in a minute by running down the same corridor before finally getting killed kind of games. Tiny wee pathetic maps that are not natural but engineered to produce a easy meat grinder. Developers seemed to think they needed to please everyone all the time. Sod it time for change and Dayz can be the start.

Maps can be designed for interest but when they are this open then it’s the players that decide how they play. Played the original BF 1942, Bf2 PR Mod and trying BF4 on a wee ones PC over Christmas I was shocked how crap the game had become. Tiny maps you cant even flank in, everything is in front of you and its like fighting along a corridor with everyone pushed. Give me a satisfying kill that has taken time using tactics and a bit of luck over these die every five minutes and spawn 200 yards always from a fire fight crap. I remember Epic rounds in 1942 when the map felt huge and you hated getting killed as it took so long to get back into the fight. BF4 you shrug off being killed as it means nothing as your back mere yards to do it all again and how repetitive is that. I was so disappointed looking at BF4 and seeing mountains  you cant get to.

At least in DayZ if you can see it you can get to it and I love that. So many playing styles can be accommodated. Make it a high learning curve and as realistic weapon wise as possible. Even in BF2 before going over to hardcore PR mod you could unload an entire machine gun clip into a player only for them to run off or worse turn and kill you all because the developers wanted you not to die to easy so artificially bullets and guns were nerfed.  I hope dean realises his dream and creates a world that players can appreciate the skill needed to play well and never nerf the weapons.

Good post and I agree.

Completely agree with you, the dificulty, the challenge is what makes dayz that fun for me, like you said "every journey is an adventure" really hope Dean realises his dream too and dont hear those ppl crying about how dificulty the game is

I guess I have to explain how this happened. At the moment the servers I am playing on there is no such thing as "Don't shoot I am friendly.". Its a kill on sight kind of place.

Umm. It's not "the servers I am playing on" It's all servers man. Welcome to DayZ. You think I play on friendly servers or something? And anyway that makes no sense. You are more likely to die of lead poisoning than from starvation anyway. Seriously if you are dying from starvation, you need to learn to manage your hunger and thirst better. It's really not that hard though.

Hi.

I read that the test servers are all in Germany, Is this true? If so, does anyone in Canada/US know if they run OK over here?

I'm kind of anxious to try out some of the new features when it goes live, but if its just going to be a laggy mess it seems kind of pointless. My locale is southern Ontario, Canada.

Regards.

Before the servers were taken down for maintenance, i saw at least one "US" named experimental-server, so i guess they will be back.

(I figure that is what you are asking about)

EDIT: typo

Srsly could you just make this game playable? And i'm not stating the bugs and glitches. But what i mean is to make it easier... As it was before i had a REALLY hard time to find weapons. And now you lower the spawns even more? like wtf.. Instead of making the game harder and harder so its completely unplayable. Make so servers can change the spawnrates and such. I want higher spawnrates of items. I want to be able to find them better. Highlight them as WarZ does. Actually do everything WarZ does. But don't do the shit that makes the game shit. Because i really love the part of zombie survival game. But  i want to play cacual and not having to fucking be on my edge and waste so much time finding stuff. I want to jump in. Spawn. Go to a fire station and find a m4 or just a handgun with ammo. And then i'm good to go. Not waste 1-2 hours running from waay up from electro to balota to find nothing than cans of food and rotten oranges..

Err ya. This game is not for you dude. M4s are extremely common. So common that everyone has one. It needs to be much much harder to find weapons. Just wait until we have a dozen weapon types. Then you will be whinging because you found a weapon but can't find the right ammo. It will become harder, not easier with more weapon and ammo types. 75% of this game is about finding gear, the rest is dealing with players. If you aren't ready to grind to find loot I suggest playing something else. It's not going to get better for you.

Of course food and drink are easy to find on 2/40 servers.  Join a real server and you might not be so pompous.

I'm not pompous. I play on full servers and still find gear. Maybe learn to play and not be so pompous about people who are better than you. Perhaps I am finding it easier as I am a veteran of the mod, and you are a noob but no need to insult me because you find it hard and are frustrated

Holy flip... you guys are unbelievable!

I LIKE DAYZ AND THE CHALLENGE IT PRESENTS!  FFS!!!

Sure doesn't sound like it. All I hear is whing whinge I can't find any gear whinge whinge.

*shrug* I just don't see the fun in that?

LOOOL Now I see why you are struggling. You're one of these guys who stays permanently on the coast. You obviously like getting killed, can't find your way around or simply you're such a noob you think that cherno and elektro are the only towns to be in.

Start going north and learn how to play. Only noobs stay on the coast. And it's pretty obvious how much of a noob you are. Sorry but it's true. So hey either stop whinging or get off the coast, you can't have it both ways

Hopefully no one has posted this before me but are you thinking of something like this?: http://i.imgur.com/U9hvnNF.jpg

It was on the Dayz subreddit (not my idea by the way, it was someone who goes by the name of joekeyboards' idea, I found it very interesting)

Edit: Link to actual post: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1vib7a/suggestion_3_stage_corpse_decay_flies_higher/

Yup! Although I would love to see it progress even further to the point where there are skeletons in the environment after days. I do love the photoshopping that the link does, it really shows the atmospheric impact. Thanks for the link, I will definitely add my two cents on that reddit!

Considering the servers can't even handle the full amount of zombies, calculating decaying bodies is probably out of the question right now....

Actually, 'calculating decaying bodies' isn't really much of a calculation, although I will agree that this is more of a long term addition. Currently the zombies are the greatest FPS sink, which is why we have so few on servers. What I was suggesting is converting a dead player to a different type of object, that changes over time. I suspect they had to do something like this anyways to avoid corpses disappearing when people logged off the game. Once someone dies the body should no longer be connected with the player, it should become a lootable object.

Zombies are handled by the server now. They don't directly affect client-side performance, they take their toll on the server.

You made your point but can we try and do it without the name calling please?

We're getting way ahead of ourselves here but i think bodies should still be connected to the player, in order to somehow combat people looting themselves.. Just a small addition to your suggestion. :)

Not really sure how that is relevant to what I was saying. Rocket has said that zombies are affecting the server FPS the most, having a significantly larger impact than adding more players to a server. This is why animals aren't currently being added, because they use the same AI as the zombies.

I wasn't talking about client side performance, I was talking about server side. While I am not completely familiar with why the server functionality is measured in FPS, that seems to be how this engine (or team) does it.

While I like the idea of keeping people from looting themselves in theory to keep the concept of one life intact, ultimately you cannot stop people getting their loot back because people will get their friends to do it. I like the intention of the idea, however.

Apologies, I thought you were talking about client-side FPS.

Server performance is measured in FPS and ticks in all games, it's not just an RV engine or DayZ thing. :)

Being that you're Scottish, it doesn't surprise me in the lease that you misunderstood what I had written. Anyway, thanks for the chuckle.  Come back again when you can't stay so long. :)
