Suggestion: Sleeping When Logged Out

Recommended Posts

How is it stupid? This is a game that's attempting to as best as it can imitate what it'd be like to survive in a zombie apocalypse(except that everyone wouldn't be killing each other) why should it give benefits but lack of it no negatives? That doesn't make sense.

No matter how much you eat or drink running 30 miles will still fuck you up unless you're Captain America or something, sustenance isn't a magic cure.

What you describe there is what I meant by resting, resting should be when you're still in game just for a few minutes to keep you fresh if you plan on having a prolonged session. Sleeping is the magically disappearing power we currently have with logging off.

Combat logging shouldn't just be left as it is it should be made almost impossible unless you're lucky enough to get the time to finish the animation.

The concept of sleeping in a game is stupid. You don't even get to see the fucking animation (and resting is just sitting for a few minutes), and when your character is stuck in the game for a while, he could have his shit stolen or something. And what's the fucking point of sleep? You log out, your character plonks his face on the floor, lies there for two minutes, then disappears? Then what? When you log in you gain some certain buffs? "oh look at me i can run faster than you because i got sleep haha". And what if your character doesn't get sleep? What happens then? You login without your buffs?

I meant eating and drinking lots in the way to get energised..

I don't even understand what you're talking about, why wouldn't you see the animation of laying down? Should be laying down then 30 seconds or so before sleep is initiated.

Since time will be going faster sooner or later it would equate to a good few minutes, obviously no normal person falls asleep in 30 seconds.

You shouldn't be able to log out, be gone and then the animation happens that would be dumb zombies could come out of nowhere and attack you while your robotic avatar casually goes to sleep un-fazed.

Have you ever been tired? Like really tired, it makes a huge difference in how well you can do just about anything, complex tasks become impossible, you have no energy, your reaction speeds suffer greatly etc etc

Lack of sleep makes a lot of sense as a negative status, slower to take out weapons and ready them, slower melee attacks, slower to start running as fast as possible(though adrenaline could play a part there) AKA no turbo mode.

Well, think, does this game need sleeping? Rust already has sleeping -- Do we need a copypaste of Rust with a different map? No, we don't. Go play Rust if you want to fucking sleep.

And no, I would not want to see the laying down animation. I feel like it would look stupid, especially if your gun/backpack/vest/melee/whatever clips through the floor when your character lies down.

What the hell does sleeping have to do with Rust? Fallout has sleeping, I guess Rust is a carbon copy of Fallout? Harvest Moon also has sleeping...they're all the same game!

Why should sleeping be omitted but not infection, blood transfusions, blood types, food poisoning, knockout damage, freezing to death and every other madly specific feature? Sleeping is a fairly mundane thing why not have that but something so advanced as blood transfusions?

First of all, I've never played Fallout, so I didn't know, and I have never heard of Harvest Moon. In this case, however, I'm referring to ONLY RUST.

And why sleeping should not be included? Well, why not? It's not like sleeping will be any use, because it's just gonna be some animation when you logout, is it not?

Resting, eh, I don't mind, as long as it's simple as sitting down somewhere for a few minutes, and not a full on sleeping animation.

What does it matter if Rust has sleeping it's not like they invented sleep in a video game, frankly it'd be weird if the DayZ devs hadn't even considered adding sleep already. If it had sleep it wouldn't suddenly become Rust that's no reason to add it, doesn't rust have guns? In that case DayZ shouldn't have guns or it's too like Rust, right?

Sleeping would be of use when they added effects for lack of it like shaking, slow reflexes etc and when stamina is a thing lack of it, resting or logging out for a few hours gives you your stamina back(unless you're starving)

It should be what the energized status is I think, food should equal...satisfied? I dunno, something like that.

That's not what I meant. Of course DayZ should have guns, every good zombie survival simulator needs guns. (Atleast the ones I've heard of.)

But taking something specific eg sleeping or a plane flying over dropping crates would make it a bit too similar to Rust..

I think the Energised status is enough -- No stupid sleeping with some dumb animation, no resting, it's a video game, not a life simulator with zombies and no law enforcement. Remember, this game isn't exactly reality but it's realistic enough, for example it doesn't matter if you eat well or not, your character still can't last for ingame weeks on end without food.

It's realistic, but it's fitted within a certain bounds.

Your character can sprint with a backpack and vest full of stuff, with long sleeved shirts and long pants in the sun, carrying a rifle and ammunition.. In real life, a soldier with similar gear probably wouldn't even be able to run for very far. Not full out sprint.

Of course, the stamina/weight system will change that, but it's gonna be the generic "regenerate over a period of time" and not "sit down and rest for eternity before you can run 50 metres again".

And how are you gonna incorporate slow reflexes into the game? Make your character have slower turning and make it longer to raise a weapon?

Obviously, this game is realistic but it's not reality. I don't think it needs sleeping, that's just taking it too far.

If I wanted to play Rust, with all the sleeping etc, I would play Rust. DayZ does not need to go down that track. Honestly, if sleeping was implemented, I would quit. I'm not going to want to marathon and halfway through, have to leave or get killed because my stupid character takes forever to raise his weapon, or get up from crouching, or is too slow to turn. I'm sure resting would only provide a temporary fix to the sluggishness (unless you sat there for hours, but it would probably be safer to log out and initiate sleep.) and then you'd end up having to rest again a short time later.
