Hunted or Hunter

Recommended Posts

Kamenka, a little coastal town in the south-west of Chernarus. It wasn't the best spawn I've ever had, but after my last disastrous trip into Electro I figured it was time to change things up. The first house I run into is a treasure trove: Water bottle, screwdriver, backpack and enough canned food to last a few good hours. I was feeling good. And then I hear it.

"We know you're in there buddy. We have loaded guns, so come on out slowly or we're coming in shooting." It's a voice from outside. He doesn't sound hostile, conversational infact, as if this was just another day for him. I'm unarmed, not even a fire extinguisher, so I walk out and hit the surrender button, hoping that they don't just shoot me in the face. Four bandits have me surrounded with M4s and they unload me of all my gear, even my starting clothes. And then just as I begin to hope that maybe they were going to let me go i'm told that we'll be going for a little walk.

Surrounded on all sides with a gun in my back, i'm taken up into the forests to the north of Kamenka. When we're in the middle of nowhere, they all stop and look at me. The one who spoke before, their leader I guess, tells me that I have twenty seconds to run for my life and then they're coming after me. I could barely believe it. I'd been dragged into a big game hunt, and I was the game. I ran. I ran for my life.

Three times I saw them in the distance, chasing, hunting. Three times i barely escaped, chased by the snapping sound of bullets passing my head. They were trying to drive me further north-east, but I would have nothing of it. I defiantly ran straight north and found my saving grace. I glimpse through the trees, a fence with a guard post. It's the Pavlovo Military Base. I run into the base, a dangerous move but I was desperate, and by some miracle stroke of luck, I find a 45 Pistol and a loaded magazine. No longer the helpless prey, was I.

Sticking around the base was suicide, so I ran back out into the forest. My hunters had spread out to look for me and I managed to catch one alone. He hadn't seen my yet, so I took my chance. I emptied the gun into his back, firing the last few shots into his body just to make sure he was down for good. Most of his gear was ruined, but now I had an M4. ACOG scope, weapon flashlight and bipod. It was a thing of beauty, and to me it was my way out of this mess.

Shots. Snapping. I jump behind the nearest tree just as it's peppered with gunfire. I wait, and let him spend his magazine before peeking out and giving him a bullet sandwich, right down his gullet. Headshots, so his gear was untouched. Now I was fully kitted and hungry for revenge. I heard gunshots in the distance, back towards the military base, and doubled back to check it out. There they were. the last two had set up outside the base and where gunning down everyone that moved. Maybe they'd forgotten about me. if so I was about to remind them. A burst of fire into the back of one them, put him down and sent his friend scurrying from cover. He ran, and I went after him,

"Who's hunting who?" I taunted through my mic as he hid in a ditch, firing blindly. We traded shots for a good minute before suddenly he stopped shooting. Did I hit him? I didn't think so. Carefully, I crept out of cover and made my way toward his ditch. He was still there. And what was he doing? Holding up a fire axe as if it would shield him from my bullets. I couldn't believe it. He'd run out of ammo. I told him to drop his axe and his empty gun, and he complied.

Then I told him he had 20 seconds to run.

You have no idea. The feeling when I stumbled upon that gun... It was as if i was drowning and, just as I was about to give up hope and let the sea take me, someone threw me a life line.

I didn't really care if the story was real or not, just gave you beans for good storytelling. That it actually really happened makes it even better.

Because this sentence is said far too often in a negative context (and it shouldn't):

Welcome to DayZ :)

Welcome to DayZ :)

Thanks for the friendly welcome.

Unfortunately my first real welcome to DayZ came at muzzle velocity.

I enjoyed that story I had a similar thing when i tried to save my friend which was fully geared but alt+tabbed to look at dayzdb map (the map of chern) we were skyping and he suddenly screams "im not concious wtf" he left elektro to go to kamyshovo and i was at kamyshovo so i sprinted to him then i saw a guy looting him next to the rive shot him with my mosin and i used my defibrilators to get my friend back up.

Btw was your story real? Real or not it was good btw

Every word of that was true. I gave that last bandit 20 seconds before hunting him the way he and his friends had hunted me. Unlike me, though, he only made it a few metres before I emptied an 20 round mag into his dirty bandit skull
